[Kyle's Loft] Two hundred year old recycled barn timbers of ash were used for the posts for this hulking, full size loft. Ash was also used for the rest of the members - some stained dark brown, some left natural. All of it is finished with low toxicity products. The client has a sensitivity to chemicals and chose The Alternative Object to meet her custom needs because of our willingness to work with her specified finishing products. Another requirement was to use as few metal fasteners as possible. We relied on our knowledge and skill with traditional joinery and even invented a joint we call a sliding, wedged dove tenon to construct this piece. Kole's Bunk is the sister project. The 3D models of both can be seen in the Designed section of this site. |
